Learning the Power of Marketing
August 16, 2010
While many people may think that marketing is simply the advertising of your business or products, the truth is, it is so much more than that. From the moment you come up with a business idea, you are working on the promotional aspect of your business. Most people have know idea of just how much it actually involves.
The first step in creating a marketing plan for your business is to do some market research. In other words, you have to research what the customer wants and what they need. Once you do this, you can then figure out how you are going to reach them and how your product or products will benefit them.
You must make certain that when you are promoting your products or business, you are focusing on what benefits will be received by the customer. If you focus on the features of the product, you will lose out on a lot of potential sales. Customers want to know how it can help them and not the actual size, weight, or material of the product.
For the best results, you also have to do some research on your own competition. Most important, you need to know what products are they offering and what type of promotional efforts are they making. The best thing you can do is try to distinguish yourself from them by focusing on what they are lacking.
So, with all of this being said, marketing focuses on more than just your ad copy and where you place it. The fact is, every aspect of your business will someway link to this task. Because there are so many details involved and so many things that can have an effect on the results you get, it may be beneficial for you to either do more research on this topic or take a class on the best way to help you market your business and products.

I totally agree,
It is so easy to get preoccupied with the details of our product or business that we lose sight of the person we are relating to. If we can find out the needs of who we are talking to first and only then address how our product or business and genuinely address those needs, everyone would be much better off.
