How to Successfully Embrace Network Marketing
June 30, 2010
Network marketing and Internet marketing can be related, but use slightly different strategy. Network marketing usually involves talking to people on the phone, while with Internet marketing, ‘networking’ is usually accomplished via email and forums online.
With that said, more and more Internet marketing companies are recommending making the phone part of the strategy, and I am sure Network marketing companies do also use email and online communications as well, particularly with advent of ‘social marketing’ sites.
In both Internet or Network marketing, the lead or prospect should request the call. They may do this either by signing up on an ‘opt-in’ form on a website, giving you permission to contact them, or directly contacting you via email or other message, requesting you to call.
When you call this person, this is known as ‘warm calling’ because the person has expressed an interest. ‘Cold calling’, on the other hand is using a list of numbers that you got out of the phone book or bought from a leads company. Network marketing companies may employ both techniques.
Internet marketing on the other hand really should only be done ‘upon request’ so as not to get spam complaints from people who did not request anybody to send them advertising content.
There are also laws protecting people from unwanted telephone calls, however, you must put your number on a ‘Do not call list’ if you do not want to be pestered by calls that usually come at the wrong time and are an unwanted intrusion.
The most important thing to remember about network marketing is actually getting to know people, or ‘networking’. The best description of ‘networking’ is ‘to know and be known without having an agenda’ – in other words just making acquaintances, becoming friends and building relationships without trying to sell anybody anything.
It really still works well for selling in the big picture, however, because someone is much more likely to buy something from someone they know and trust, than from a stranger who is obviously exploiting their acquaintance only for the purpose of selling. It is much easier to say ‘no’ to someone at this level than it would be to someone you know.
